Meet Your Coach
Hi, I’m Kathy Kulasa—founder of Balanced Fitness & Coaching and someone who truly gets what it’s like to juggle life, family, and your own wellness.
I’m passionate about helping women navigate their fitness journeys, improve their health, build lasting habits, and reach personal goals. With a lifetime of experience in fitness and athletics—from cross country to marathons, mountain biking, and Ironman triathlons—I bring both deep understanding and practical knowledge to my coaching.
As a Physical Education teacher, I’ve spent years developing ways to simplify fitness and make wellness feel manageable and accessible for real people with real lives. My diverse experiences allow me to connect with clients personally, offering guidance and support rooted in empathy and real-world understanding.
What I Believe
- You don’t need to be perfect—you just need a plan that feels doable.
- Strength looks different for every woman.
- Movement should make your life better, not busier.
- Real change happens when you feel supported, not judged.
- Fitness is about building your confidence—not meeting someone else’s expectations.

My Journey
My love for fitness started early—back in middle school when I joined cross country. I quickly fell in love with running and carried that passion through high school and college. After earning my degree in Health and Physical Education, I began competing in local 5Ks and 10Ks, plus a few sprint triathlons.
Like many athletes, I faced challenges—especially with swimming, which felt overwhelming at times. For the next 20 years, I focused on running and cycling, completing marathons, ultramarathons, and mountain biking events. Eventually, I taught myself to swim again and worked my way back into triathlon competitions—eventually completing my first Ironman-distance race!
While swimming is still a work in progress, my passion for fitness, nutrition, and evidence-based training has only grown stronger—and I’m committed to staying on my own journey of learning and growth.

A Bit More About Me
Outside of training, coaching, and teaching, I spend as much time as possible with my best friend and soulmate, Erik. We love going on adventures in our SxS, hanging out with family and friends, and working together in our yard.
When the weather’s not great, you’ll find me in my stained glass shop—my favorite quiet space to relax and recharge. I’ve been fascinated by glass for as long as I can remember, and stained glass work is my personal calm and creative outlet.
